1991-1999 BMW 3 Series Car Review

Overall Rating 4 Stars
Description
The BMW 3 Series is a leader in its class, its appealing features and standard equipment make it a good choice. If the price is a factor then the older 3 Series range are just as fun and reliable to drive.

BMW 3 Series (1991-99)
Road Test
A majority of 3 Series owners are happy with their purchase, this is down to its classy look for a saloon car compared to a similar class Ford Mondeo.

The Touring estates move well with a family in the back but your better off not loading it with lots of luggage. The Compact 3 door was always viewed as a poor man's BMW and this still remains today, but the most popular vehicles are defiantly the sports coupe and cabriolet.

It doesn't matter what derivative you choose as they are all constructed to a high standard and very reliable cars packed with loads of equipment although most buyers lean towards the SE and Sports models.

The BMW 3 Series holds its price well but the key elements to this are a complete service history and good condition.

If you are a driving enthusiast then the six cylinders is a must have. The 320i and 323i are a good choice when looking for the best performance for its price. If you have a little more to spend then the 325i and 328i are for you.

The 3 Series has good communication in steering and sits on a sport chassis. The gear change is comfortable along with responsive brakes powered by a rear wheel drive providing a pleasurable driving experience.

There is more leg room in the back of similar cars in the 3 Series class but otherwise it's a comfortable car.

The 3 Series design is an old one but the only downside is the safety rating which is below average.
Positive Points
  • Perceptible quality, reasonable status
  • Driving pleasure
  • Lots of choice to suit most budgets
Negative Points
  • Higher than average running costs
  • A bit cramped for rear passengers
  • Indifferent safety by modern standards
